The recent earthquakes here in California have us all a little worried. Having an earthquake insurance policy in place is a smart idea. Homeowners and renters can purchase an earthquake insurance policy. Earthquake insurance is available for standard homes, manufactured homes, & condos. Earthquake coverage is not included on your home or renters insurance policy, it needs it’s own policy. What kind of policy is right for you will depend on whether you own or rent your home, and what insurance carrier has your renters, condo, or homeowners insurance policy. Through our participating insurers, we can offer policies through the California Earthquake Authority (CEA). If your home or renters insurance company doesn’t participate with the CEA, that’s okay too, we have other options for you.
If you haven’t had an earthquake quote in the last few months, you may be pleasantly surprised at how affordable it can be. The CEA recently updated their rating structure, and several zip codes (including our Temecula and Murrieta area) saw a tremendous decrease in their rates. The deductibles can start as low as 5% and go up to 25% . You don’t pay your deductible to the CEA, they subtract it from the covered damage amount.
While you may begin an earthquake policy at any time, there may be a waiting period placed on new policies after a recent earthquake.
